What I did
We climb down the wooden stairs of our room and then back up another set of wooden stairs to the dining area where we enjoy a breakfast of egg hoppers and a curry of fried onions with tomatoes and jam. We plan our day over breakfast then retire back to our rooms to pack for our trip to the Citadel of Sigiriya (Lions Rock).
Our favorite new tuck tuck driver (Charminda) picks us up just outside our hotel and whizzes us to our destination
The view from the top of the rock fortress is well worth the clim as the wide green forest is laid open before us, stretching to the horizon in all directions. A giant statue of Buddha peaks out of the forest canopy in an otherwise see of green. We linger at the top of rock for a while, looking over the terraced gardens and pools and try to imagine what the area might have looked like 1500 yeas ago.
Rested and imaginations full, we make our way back down the Lions Rock where Charminda is waiting to take us to lunch. On the way back we pick up a few beers to enjoy them on our balcony overlooking the forest. Rested and relaxed We decide to take a short walk to check out a local temple down the road, before returning home and get ready another great meal made by our local innkeepers. The sun goes down and darkness overtakes the forest. Green turns to black and the call of birds are replaced by the song of crickets. That's our cue to make our way back to our rooms for a well deserved nights rest.
