3 planes and 48 hours latter we arrived in Colombo at 5am. After sorting out our luggage, money exchange and phone we hired a taxi to take us to our hotel in the north eastern part of town. The streets were still dark and the city was still waking up. We sat in the back of the cab watching daylight slowly reveal the nuances of the city as our driver weaved in and and out of traffic in an erratic fashion.

Our room was not ready yet so we decided to walk to the train station and book our rides up to Kandy, Hatton & Ella. Along the way we were greeted by a chorus of dozens of crows and the friendly greetings of locals wishing us a good morning.

Tickets purchased we decided to make our way back to the hotel and find a bite to eat on the way back. With the lack of sleep and our internal clocks out of whack it never dawned on us that nothing would be open this early in the morning on a Sunday.

The early morning heat was already reaching the high 20' by 8 am and the hour long walk back along the ocean front was starting to put us all into a daze. We stopped of at the Galle Face hotel to enjoy some needed shade and watched as a local musicians and dancers escorted wedding guests into the hotel.

We finally made it back to our hotel and laid down for a bit of a rest before returning outdoors. All 3 of us promptly fell asleep within seconds of our heads hitting the pillows. 6 hours latter we awoke, showered and ventured out for a bite to eat. Curry chicken & and fish with sides of rice, eggplant, green beans, sambal, lentils, mango chutney and lion laggers.

Bellies full and still feeling the effects of our 2 days of travel we decided to retire to our room for more sleep in preparation for a new day exploration.
