we headed towards bompas... onto the coast where people were out enjoying the weekend, strolling, bike riding and the likes.  around bacares we found a nice coastal park with an amazingly comfortable patch of pine trees, soft bedding and warm.  the next morning we woke and rode the etang, a noodle of land.  since we were surrounded by water the weather was turning to something else, stormy looking and windy. cold! we stopped and made tea and ate breakfast in a shopping center that you could tell would be hopping in the summer but in these wintery days the supermarket played its easy listening for only a  few ears.

our destination was past narbonne.   the road leading to narbonne also passes the african reserve, a theme park like zoo that stretches across many miles.  so here we are riding in gray winter weather and passing billboards with photos of lions and giraffes.  animals! as we climbed a hill, animals! there was a spotting of a teen boy with his pants pulled down to his ankles hiding in between bushes at the top of a hill, he was facing the road jerking off.  really, the next few hills we passed i was expecting to find like scenes, but no such luck.

we make it to narbonne and have time to stock up and make more tea, we're freezing.  we ride to the next lil' town, coursanne and end up sleeping under a nice bridge, expecting rain. a local dog walker found us lurking and checking out the spot, didn't find us funny but wished us well.   little did we know that it would be a wind storm that lasts many weeks,  our tent was filled with sand particles and whipped around all night.  we packed up in the morning scrubbing the sand out of the corners of our eyes, and rode a nice tail wind up to beziers.  we were suprised to find a moroccan bakery and gladdly bought some bread, for ol' times sake.

we had trouble finding a place to eat , the parks were too cold and the train staion didn't seem right, so down the road we found a office building that looked closed and we set up shop, making tea and eating sandwiches and yogurt.  turns out the office was open and the employees were inside watching us, huddled on their porch making teas.  they were cool, we were embarressed, they wanted to find out what we were up to, and gave us some fruitcake.
we rode with the tail wind to sete, really liked the place, cannals with fishing boats intersect the main streets in town, there's a nice park and library.  we decided to try and get a cheap place to stay. we wanted cover from the wind. a nice librarian pointed us in the direction of a bad attitude and expensive hostel which we opted against.  a guard of the city park offered us the park to stay in, on the sly, well ¨we can't be too sly lifting 100pound bikes over 7ft tall fences, so we had to ride out of sete.

wind in our faces.  kinda feeling gloomy about the cold and nighttime conditions. away we went looking for some decent shelter and ended up at the docks in frontignan.  well we saw some wind shelter there, but at the same time the guard saw us.  so we asked if it would be alright to sleep behind this wall.  he said no, but being a really REALLY nice guy let us sleep on one of the boats.  these past two days, really bad weather and really nice people!
