(Katharine)

We're leaving South Africa. Jack and Alex are crying their hearts out.

We came to Jo'burg to see the Youngs.  We took a four hour car trip to Drakensburg, which is where we took hikes that were amazing, beautiful, and spectacular. We swam in the river, and stayed in log cabins. Ramsgate was phenomenal. We had the time of our lives buggy-boarding, and we ate at the famous waffle house. We stayed in a very pretty seaside house with a maid called Goodness.  Dad got a bleeding spot on his head from bodysurfing.  We stayed for a week and two days in Ramsgate.

Then it was Christmas.  Mrs. Young put on some music, and their friends Oliver and Gemma came over.  I went to a movie with Gemma, and she laughed all the way through!  When we got back, we put up the tree and jumped in the swimming pool.  Next day was Christmas Eve, and everybody celebrated.  We stayed up swimming, but had to go to bed at 10:30.

Morning at last, we opened our stockings.  Chocolate springbok, necklace and a beaded letter.  I also got a chocolate coin and some sour Skittles.  We had to wait til 10:00 to open presents.  James got a hammock for his birthday.  I got a pug from Alex, a beadset from Nanny, a folder, an art pouch for pencils, and lots more.  Jack got a basset hound Lil' Kinz for Alex, and Mom and Dad gave Alex a movie called Star Wars Clone Wars.  I gave him Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and he got an IPod from Santa.  And a book.  Dad got a shirt and a Bedside Sudok book.  Jack got a DVD player with his own money, an IPod complete kit, a certificate and a few books.  Graeme and Timmy got ice cream things and a Wii.

Best of luck!
Just stumbled across your blog. I love what you guys are doing!

I had the good fortune of living in Cape Town for six months after graduating high school. The things I saw and experienced during that time have forever changed me -- for the better.

You might find this of assistance as you travel with kids: http://blogs.away.com/2008/01/south-africa-is.html

Enjoy your trip while it lasts -- time flies!
