My flight from the Corn Islands was cancelled after 3 hours waiting at the airport, due to a technical problem.  To be fair we saw them trying to repair one of the wheels of the plane but with not much luck, so I'm kind of happy I wasn't on the flight!  Paolo had his flight to France the following morning, which he would miss and didn't have travel insurance so he was pretty pissed of to say the least.  But the airline company La Costena was great, providing us with free taxi's to and from a hotel, which they also paid for, and taxi's to and from the restaurant where they also paid for our dinner.  Needless to say, I had lobster!!!

Paulo and I camped out in a cheap hostel in Managua for the night and we both got up at 4am, me to catch a 5am bus and Paolo for his changed flight to France.

Managua itself, is a dodgy and dirty city - very run down.  But then again Nicaragua is the poorest of the central American countries, a bit like Bolivia.  Paolo and I walked around Managua a bit to buy my bus ticket, change money, check out one of the shopping malls and have some lunch.  But whilst walking round we bumped into a guy off our plane from the Corn Islands who said his taxi driver (who was sitting right next to him - they'd spotted us walking along the street) said it wasn't safe for us to be walking around and we should catch a cab if we needed to go somewhere.  I had thought it was a bit dodgy but walking with someone else is always safer.

Observations typical of Nicaragua:
1. They love their rocking chairs / in hostels, outside shops, in coffee shops.
2. Nicaraguan Spanish is difficult to understand - the miss out s's at the end of words and use 'vos' instead of 'tu'
3. Flor de Cana rum is very popular and cheap too!
