After a blissful few days in my future home of LA (I wish) we hit the
famous Pacific Coast Highway and went for a cruise on through Malibu
(which was rather disappointing - ain't got nothing on Perth beaches!),
took the photo of us and the tangs, Mustangs and Malibu

then onto a much needed American breakfast at Santa Barbara which, I might add, is one very nice city.

Onwards and upwards driving along beautiful windy coastal roads and Pacific Coast Highway

in and out of sea fog we reached our destination of the Big Sur - tiny
little town situated along the Big Sur river amongst the enormous
Redwoods.  Pulled into this gorgeous camp ground, settled into our cute
little tent cabins. Big Sur Camp Ground

Went for a swim in the very refreshing/freezing river (even the children weren't in), fossicked for some firewood then went
back to camp, cracked the beers, stoked the fire, roasted marshmallows
and got into the swing of 4th of July by singing wonderful tunes like
Islands in the Stream by good ole Dolly and Kenny hahaa.

After embarrassing ourselves enough in front of other campers we
ventured up to the bar/restaurant for very strong margaritas and some grub.

With our stomachs lined and drinking boots on it was back down to our
cosy campsite and fire for some more tunes.  All was going well until
the boys suggested shot gunning beer.  Now either the beer was flat or
we were all too old to remember how to shotgun a beer can cause it
sooooo didn't work the way its supposed to.  Still the boys persisted and
Sarah did the girls proud by giving it a bash herself.  I for once opted
for the sensible option and just stood by and took photos.

Was a fantastic night away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Would have been nice to have spent another day there but San Fran
called so it was rise and shine early and back on the road we went..... Oliver amongst the towering Redwoods
