Arrived to chilly conditions... something I had not considered when packing my 5 bikinis and sun dresses.... Thankfully Bree had a spare coat which I lived in for the next few days.

So 3 days to explore the picturesque city of Salzburg.  Bree and Oliver's first time, my second after having spent a weekend here with my dear friend Fossy back in 2003.  Wondered the beautiful shopping lanes, visited two Mozart museums which were just thrilling hahaaa actually one was, his residence, the other, house where he was born, was pretty weird and boring.

Walked up to the castle which overlooks the city.  Unfortunately it was grey and rainy so couldn't see the distant snow capped alps but did manage to walk through all the various rooms and exhibitions... something Fossy and I failed to do opting instead for beers on the terrace.

Had coffee and cake at the rooftop bar of Hotel Stein which offers amazing views across the river to the city and castle.  Walked through the beautiful Mirabelle Gardens, Oliver befriending some of the statues, one of which reminding me of Hoggle out of the Labyrinth.

Spent an afternoon/evening at a traditional beer hall, the Augustiner Brewery, playing cards, drinking steins, eating ribs, meats, cheese, giant pretzels and of course snitchzelsnitchzel .  Took great pleasure in seeing little old grandmas walk in only to knock back a stein quicker than we could say "check that out".  Nice to see all the old boys coming in for a mens chat and drink.  I'm sure some of the groups have been going on for years.

Relaxing Austria over it was now time to begin our Oktoberfest tour... something that was to prove not so relaxing.
