After a 12 hr train trip we arrive in the not very nice boarder town of New Jalpaiguri. Upon seeking to book our connecting train to Darjeeling we discover there are rail strikes and no trains have been or will be going to Darjeeling. Great.
We're told however of the possibility that they will be leaving from Siliguri, a town close by, so we hail a tuk tuk and go try our luck there. Unfortunately they confirm that no trains will be leaving from anywhere to go to Darjeeling. It could be a day before they are up and running again or it could be a week. Try the bus. Off we go in search of a bus. Oliver speaks to a few people who inform him that its not only trains that aren't going to Darjeeling but buses and jeeps also. Bye bye plans to go to Darjeeling hello plan B.
