Where I stayed
We took the train to Central Station and walked to our hostel from there. We were a few hours early for check in, but they let us use the showers and we met a girl who let us keep our stuff in her room til we could check in. She was Scottish and I couldn't understand her half the time because she talked so fast, but she was so helpful. Her and her roommate, an English boy, took us down to a little market and we bought beach towels. They gave us some tips on things
When we got back from the market we were able to check in. Our room has five bunk beds, so ten different people stay in there. There are five boys from Denmark who seem really nice. They all sit around and talk to each other in Danish though, so its difficult to make conversation. There was a girl from Germany, but she left yesterday. She was a sweetheart. She's been traveling around Australia for a whole year by her self! She had some great stories. Its amazing all of the traveling that these people have done! Then, there are three others, but they haven't been around much. Except for at 6 this morning when the two American girls turned the lights on while we were all sleeping!
Missy and I went to go find phones and we ran across this little travel shop. A girl in there showed us all kinds of tours and gave us all these options for things to do! We found two tours we want to do in Cairns, but apparently a cyclone is forming there so I don't know if we'll be able to go. One of the tours is a snorkeling and diving trip to the Great Barrier Reef. The other is a trip to the rain forest and we get to zipline! So I really hope the weather clears because it sounds amazing!
We ended up each getting a pay as you go phone. Mines old school pre-smart phone, so that's pretty cool! Missy got a smart phone so that she could use the internet
Missy has family friends down here in Sydney and they invited us over for dinner. So, we had to take a ferry across the bay. All we needed to do was find the bus to take us to the ferry. That took about an hour! Everyone kept pointing us in the wrong direction until someone finally said that the bus we were looking for doesn't run after 3:30 pm. But, we got on another bus and made it down to Circular Quay. While we waited for the ferry we walked around the corner and there was the Sydney Opera House! It was wonderful! We took some pictures of it and the bridge, we're going to go back because we didn't have much time. But, it was so cool to finally see it in person!
The ferry ride was quick and gave us a chance to take more pictures. And Jill picked us up when we got off. This part of Sydney that we were in was absolutely beautiful! It was all residential. These houses are gigantic! And they overlook the bay and there are beautiful trees and plants all over. I was amazed. Jill and her husband have a daughter, her name is Alex and shes my age. They were very nice. Made us dinner and desert, gave us some opinions on what we should do during our stay. Oh, and there were kookaburras everywhere just squawking non stop! But, they're cute so it was ok :) By the time dinner was over I was ready to fall asleep, the jet lag was finally hitting in. Jill drove us back to our hostel and I actually started falling asleep in the car. But, the second I laid down in bed I was out.
