Since all of my photos prior to 2005 are not digitized yet, I must apologize and start this blog with my 2005 cruise. I hope to digitize those photos soon and give some more insights.
I am what the navy calls an "airdale", which means I am attached to squadrons of aircraft, rather than being stationed on a ship. Each squadron is attached to a ship, and we deploy aboard that ship. We begin each cruise with what we call "work ups", which is where we go to sea so the pilots can get qualified for carrier operations.
This first Blog was aboard the USS Nimitz, based out of San Diego California. If you watch the video I made, you will see many of the fine men and women I had the honor to serve with in VAQ-135. We flew EA-6B aircraft manufactured by Grumman, and designed to provide electronic warfare for the U.S. Navy. The harbor you see in the video is San Diego harbor.
During this work up, we pulled out of San Diego harbor, and did circles while performing flight operations far off the coast of California. We then pulled back in to San Diego. I know it's not much of a "travel experience" in the way many of you understand, but I think it still counts.
