A quiet day in port with nothing specific planned.  We debarked with our new "Irish" friends Maureen and Terry Mackian from Victoria, British Columbia.  We walked from the ship to the Elevador Lacerda, which takes us from the commercial district (where we docked) up to the older part of the city.  Lots of fun walking about the old town with it's narrow lanes and cobbled streets.  The sun was merciless but thankfully there were plenty of "refreshment stops" available so slake our thirst.  We did but one obligatory church and were glad we did because the interior was, quite frankly, spectacular (no photos allowed!).  We wandered for a few more hours and then headed back to the ship to find a cool hideaway to protect us from the sun.
Tomorrow is a quiet day at sea followed by our arrival in Rio de Janeiro, where we will vanish off the radar screen as it were for a few days.  Our next post should be on the first sea day after we return to the ship in Buenos Aires.
