We left Chateaue le Verdoyer on Monday 16th in pouring rain and headed south for Cahors, hoping for better weather.  It cleared gradually and we arrived in the dry, only to be told that there had been 5mm of rain that morning.  It stayed dry long enough to set up camp, but then the heavens opened and we had thunder, lightning and a terrific downpour for the rest of the day.  The following day as still damp.  We went into Cahors but forgot guide books.  Found an internet cafe which was full of the city's teenagers playing games.  In the afternoon we visited the Grottes du Pech-Merle, well known for their stone age graffiti.  Wednesday saw the sun, and we drove upstream along the banks of the river Lot, through amazing gorges, to Bezies, where there is a towpath carved into the cliff face, chemin de halage, Bouzies

then on to St Cirq-la-Popie, allegedly the most picturesque village in France, perched on a cliff above the river.

This is tuly a beautiful area.
On Thursday we visited Cahors, this time armed with guide book to help us through th Middle Aged streets (that does not sound right, but you know what we mean).  A remarkable town, known for its old bridge and of course its red wine.............; Valentre bridge, Cahors

At last an e-mail from HSBC france Caen branch advising they have a card and pin for my account there.  Only three weeks late.  Hopefully it will be in Carcassonne next week.  Still no joy with wi-fi.  We have been to several places with it but my good old Sony veeayeeayeo will not connect.  I have bought another connector and so hopefully will be able to upload some pictures soon.

Hello Stranger!
Hi JJ,

Great to hear from you. You certainly sound as though you are having a great time and visiting lots of nice places.

You aren't missing much back home. Weather c**p, work boring and no one up to much. Out in a fortnight with Deborah at York races - sales delivery will be there too so will see if I can get any gossip for you.

I'll look forward to the next episode of your travels but for nw

Au revoir (as they say in France!)

Em x
