Pisco Sour count: Not too many to hurt
Steak count: Lots, and they are really very good
Hours on Beach: Many
Hours spent deciding on what to eat next: Most hours
Empanadas: Oooo quite a few
Glasses of wonderful chilean wine: A few!
Listening to live Latin music: Couple of times, both of which were really great.
So as planned, Pete, Karin and I headed up to near Tongoy to a small cove called Playa Blanca which has a great beach which is well protected from the Pacific surf
When we got to Playa Blanca, I actually thought we hadn't brought enough. Next time, we need a big Japanase utility vehicle, or a Hilux, and a roof box, and a trailer. Then we won't look out of place. Bring a boat if you can. And several children. AND a maid. I kid you not.
We had a lovely spot at the end of the beach with a great view where we set up camp. Even had electricity. We used it for a cooler. A few plots down, one family, who owned a monstrosity of a Nissan ute, had set up a DVD projection onto the side of the tent. Quite unbelievable. Their kitchen had almost every conceivable white goods. Is this really camping Chile style? Guess I will find out when I hit the wilds of the south in Feb.
Tongoy, was handy to get a cheap haircut, a slightly risky proposition, and one I prob wouldn't have gone for without Karin's translation. I am very glad she didn't say, "he would like the haircut of that man (pointing to mandatory poster) who looks like he starred in some dodgy 80s Spanish movie".
Fish market was fantastic, and we brought back some fantastic fish which got BBQd one evening. Jamie Oliver would have been proud
So all in all, a v relaxing week, enjoying the heat, and getting instant cool downs in quite a cold Pacific. I am not good at getting in cold water. Generally seem to spontaneously come out with Ned Flanders (Simpsons) screams. Provides entertainment to the locals I suppose. One woman from Santiago, came up to me and instantly spoke German. That was quite an assumption. I hadn't left my towel anywhere.
Think I am finally over the UK winter blues. Hope you lot aren't too cold.
