On May 5th, Britain takes to the polls to elect local officials..... which means it is leaflet delivering time in the village. Mum is running for council again, dad is not - which cuts the constituency in half. However, running for election still requires a lots of foot time to make sure all the people mum respresents have a chance to find out about the election, and ask the questions they may want answered.

So we set off on a beautiful bank holiday Monday to deliver 800 leafltes to 400 households......

It's amazing that after living in the village for so long that i didn't know all the streets we were heading to. There are so many walking paths I didn't know existed, having only been up to the most North-eastern parts of the village in a car (trying to avoid traffic on the main roads!), or sometimes on my bike. I have glanced at the housing estates as I have walked along the other side of the canal toe path, but never explored..... and i have to say that it is a lovely part of Penkridge. Everyone I met was very friendly, and the houses were beautifully tendered with pretty gardens and personal touches. We even met some swans, ducks and a blackbird who continued to sing loudly as we walked past his house on the way to deliver leaflets through the front door in his particular garden :)

It just shows what it really takes to get to know your community - we so often stick to the routes and places that we know, thinking we have seen something adjacent, when in reality, we have no clue about the character or feel of a place until we have spent time exploring.

So I had a lovely educational morning, enjoyed feeling my way through a new part of Penkridge (which my mum knows well by the way!), and spending time with my mum. Here's to more Bank Holidays!
