As I walked up to the door of my house, video camera in hand, I was feeling very excited. Mum and dad had no idea I was coming home for Christmas, and this would be the second time I would surprise them with a quick visit home this year.
As I turned the corner up the drive I could see that both cars were in the drive, and my mum and dad were by the door inside - I could see them through the glass. It looked like they were heading out. I had got home just in time.

As I rang the doorbell, dad jumped and mum turned to answer the door. The look on her face was one of disbelief. Could it be Claire, again? Mum opened the door and said: 'We're just on our way out!'

"Merry Christmas!" I replied, and gave dad and mum a big hug.

I don't think that they really knew what to do. I told them that I will be home for a few weeks and they looked so happy. I felt very happy too. Not so much of a rush this time. What a relief.

'The bathroom's free' Dad said, not knowing what else to say.

So off they went to the council meeting, and I had the first few hours home alone. Peace and quiet and a nice warm bed waiting for me. It's so lovely to be back. I can't believe that I finally made it. After 18 hours of travelling - perhaps more - it's just so nice to be still and quiet. Hello Penkridge, hello family and hello animals. I'm home!
