Sometimes I feel like giving up completely.
It's hard to fight sometimes.
It's hard to know that things aren't changing.
It's hard - I feel so trapped.

And no one seems to help me.
And no one seems to care.
Why should I keep trying?
There's a huge world to explore out there.

A PhD is for fools, I'm convinced.
Fools who will stay a little too long.
Fools that if they survive it
Will have people remind them, their whole life long.

Today I feel like giving up completely.
I know I've got so much to learn.
I'm just not sure I care enough anymore.
This PhD can keel over and burn.

The bright side: Of course I won't give up. The park is beautiful. A cup of tea will solve all as usual. But still - it's hard sometimes.

PhDs are good for you.

Hi John,

Thanks for your advice. I've just had a nice sit down and a cup of tea...and a tot of whiskey. I can hear lions roaring in the distance, the frogs are singing their hearts out, and all is good. Though I still think that doing a PhD is a definite sign of insanity!
