Our next trip was to Nickerie the second biggest city of Suriname. Ya biggest??? Not more than 35.000 people. Suriname has only 492.000 inhabitants!!! Driving from Paramaribo by bus the guide brought us to Saramacca, Groningen where the Dutch planters settled their self after the plantation time. After that we went to Coronie where there is a lot of coconut palms and they made oil ouf of it. Also a lot of people colecting honey. Known as the best honey and sweetest the Parwa Honey. Driving to the east we came in Nickerie where there are only rice fields. All the rice of Suriname comming from that district. Small town and other style of living. Most influence from Brittish Guyana. After a good rest and relaxing night we take a boat to the Bigi Pan Nature Reserve. There are 122 kinds of water birds to be spot here. Also Crocodiles laying in the grass or on the side of the swamp. It was amazing how many fish there is and the birds that you can see. One of the beautifull birds was the Red Scarlet Ibes and the Giant King fisher. Also we saw some hawks. It was a nice trip and recommand to do it. Our guide Mantje knowed alot of the birds and had very sharp eyes!!
