Thanksgiving weekend all USAC students got Thursday and Friday off so me and my good buddy Maggie took a trip to Greece. It wasn't all I expected but still pretty amazing. Here's an overview of what went down: Thursday: took the train from Torino to Ventimiglia where I waited a good ten hours in a train station because those lame Frenchies decided that a train strike was a good idea. I made it to Nice around 9pm and ate a leftover Thanksgiving dinner...not too bad for being in Europe. Slept about 4 hours and got up to catch our flight. We spent 15 minutes trying to call a taxi before Maggies credit on her phone ran out. Luckily she rocks and ran out into the street like a madwoman so we could stop a taxi and hitch a ride with this Austrian guy also headed to the airport. After a connection in Munich we thankfully made it to Athens! Friday: saw the Acropolis and many other ruins around that area. Did some souvenir shopping and, oh yah, got a stupid fine for riding the metro with the wrong ticket!! Saturday: Did some more sight-seeing and shopping. Ate amazing gyros...YUM. Rested and shopped some more. Had a delicious dinner of Greek salad, Mousakka, and yogurt and honey for desert. Sunday: finally found a Starbucks...only the second of my entire trip! Visited the Archeological Museum...very cool. Saw some more ruins. Tragically, we actually got a little "ruined-out". Had dinner in an overpriced Americanized pub and took a tram up to a peak with a gorgeous view of Athens at night. Attempted some pictures and then walked around bit before hitting the hay. Monday: attempted to talk our way out of our metro ticket situation...which did not work. Had coffee and real greek doughnuts and then some more coffee. Headed to the airport early so Maggie could get some studying done and then flew home to Nice where, the next day, I caught the now off-strike train back to my humble abode in Italia. And we all lived happily ever after.
