catching up

So, it's been a while since Hotel Roma and now I am settled into my apartment. It is located only ten minutes (walking) from school. It's also about five minutes from the Lingotto mall which was formally the main Fiat factory. I got lucky in rock, paper, scissors and scored the single room with the queen size bed! YESSSS! I have two lovely roommates from Chico, California. (Probably half the students in the program are from there). We all get along really well. I've spent the last week or so getting acquainted with the area and doing a lot of walking around with them and some other girls. We went on a trip to the Lingotto mall and got to see the top of the old factory...which has a test track for cars on it! There was a beautiful view from the top. Also, way up there is a small collection of art which included Picasso and Matisse! We also went to the open market in downtown Torino which is supposedly the largest in Europe. Basically we walked around and found a lot of junk and nothing except produce to buy. Kind of a dud. Let's see...we also took a short train ride to the town of Asti. There they were holding a wine tasting and food festival. (Judy and Kip, you would have loved it). I'm not your regular wine connoisseur but I tried five or so different types. There are a lot of local wines that the people here are very proud of. Speaking of local food...today at school we had a short lecture of the chocolate that Torino is known for. Yum. Don't worry, I plan on bringing some home for everyone. : ) Well, I think that about catches you up on the past week or so. I love and miss you all! XOXO!

The chocolate is both dark and milk but a lot of it has a hazelnut flavor to it. Very yummy! I miss you guys too! I will try and keep up on my blog for you!
