Well...that was a horrific "holiday" (Happy Easter to all by the way). It started sleeplessly. Because both parents were still in Cortona, I had to spend the first two nights in the same room as the kids in case they needed anything. This led to two nights of being woken up by Millo crying and then spending a long time trying to get him back to sleep. I think the first night I got about two hours rest.
Besides the lack of sleep the trip was made more difficult by the fact that, not only did I have to look after Metta and Millo, but also Livia's sisters' children too, most of the time. And there are five of them... I wasn't asked if this was ok. The other parents just seemed to expect me to, still Livia warned me about this so at least I wasn't taken off guard.
The low point was there was no internet in the house. Internet is the one thing that is keeping me sane and I was cruelly deprived of it for five days!
The last thing that made this trip trying was that the house was full of stuffed animal heads and that just creeped me out! Still, there were a few saving graces; one, I found a porcupine quill (which, I'm sure you'll agree, is super duper exciting); two, the weather was really, really lovely half the time (the other half, it rained, but whatever); and three, it was highly entertaining watching small children run excitedly around the garden during the Easter egg hunt (plus, I can basically eat the kids chocolate whenever I want- there's enough that it'll take them about a year to realize any has disappeared!).
I also met the au pair of one of the sisters and so that helped to keep me from toppling over the brink of insanity. Her name was Sonia and I think she was Russian. She was quite a bit older than me, I think, but still nice and easy to talk to, so thank God for that!
That is a very abridged version of the trip but I didn't think I would bore you with every little child-filled event that happened to me. I don't want to inflict that on you; I'm just happy it's over.
Only one more day here; I'm practically bouncing off the walls I'm so excited to be going home!
