Today I discovered what it is that makes me stand out as a Scot here. Not the red hair and pale skin (though there's no denying that that may contribute to it). No it's the fact that when all the locals are wrapped up in thick coats, jumpers, hats, scarves, gloves and boots I'm sauntering around in a t-shirt, cardigan, thin jacket, cropped trousers and plimsolls. I have gotten a few glances at my feet today, and I just look back at the people in a way that says, "That's right. I'm a hardcore Scot who is impervious to cold, while you, heat-loving Italian, are shivering inside your 42 layers. Boom!" It's one of the few advantages of being Scottish, I feel, and a very good one at that. 
Anyway, Today was another fairly uneventful day. I took Fiammetta to school, came back and helped Livia clear some of the junk from around the house. She has emptied out a cupboard which seems to have tardis-like properties, because there is just so. much. stuff! Still, I always find it makes walking around the house much more satisfying if you have to climb over about thirty boxes to get from one room to the other. 
Later in the day I got round to asking Livia to speak Italian with me when the children aren't around, which she did...until I left then came back about half an hour later. I can see it becoming a fun little daily routine, me asking her to speak Italian and her forgetting. But then, what is life without a little repetition? Repetition? Repetition? 
Now for my food segment (I've decided, just now, that this will be an exciting daily section of my entries, seeing as I seem to be cooking something new everyday). Today was the turn of the bechamel potatoes. Normally they have cartons of bechamel sauce in the house (which, personally, I think is a little lazy, but that's neither here nor there) but today we were all out so I made my own. It was all going splendidly until Livia came over and poured in a whole lot of milk at once, making it lumpy. She very nearly ruined it and I very nearly had a nervy B. (nervous breakdown for all of you who are not up to date with your youth talk). Still, like a true professional I managed to rectify the situation and in the end produced a dish that was fairly nice and not as bland as one would expect. I really am turning into a culinary marvel... Also, and I know this is a bit of a shame for poor Maelys, but today Livia told me that I should do as much of the cooking as possible because I was better at it than Maelys. Unfortunately this means I have to cook more (as is to be expected when one is asked to cook more) but it's always nice to have your achievements noticed. 
 Tomorrow Maelys and I are going to try and go back to the shopping outlet we went to yesterday because, quite frankly, it was awesomes.
