We did make good tracks given the time we had, and made it to one of the more out the way baths that evening. Clearly the idea is to spend all day or at least an afternoon there discussing affairs of the state, gossiping, reading the paper or playing chess on a roll-up chess board as we saw a couple of old men doing. So we played musical baths for two or three hours trying out baths of differing temperatures in beautiful old buildings. Even the saunas came in different temperatures, 70 degrees was about the limit before we bailed out and got a drink on the terrace before the sun went down. A sign on the wall tells you all the various trace elements that are present in the mineral waters that feed the baths. Next time it's the mud baths.
A trolleybus ride to some inner city suburb saw us in an unexpectedly quiet and poorly lit backstreet, but halfway along there was a hole in an ivy-covered wall and sounds of a live band. Turns out the band was good and so was the food - with what we imagine is fairly typical Hungarian fare involving sausages with paprika. We felt obliged to start a food diary at that point.
There was no time to hang about though we were sorely tempted, which was becoming a bit of a recurring theme.
