The whole route we did, with the campsites we stayed at and other stuffs are gathered in a .kmz file that can be opened in Google Earth.
Here are some screenshots of the route.
Also, at the hotel, in the corridor, a map was framed. It was published by the UK Ministry of Defense in 1974. This map certainly comes from the expedition to the Musandam peninsula sent by the Royal Geographical Society during the winter of 1971-72.
High resolution images of the map can be found here and here.
The expedition of the Royal Geographical Society is detailed in several issues of The Geographical Journal.
In Vol. 139, Issue 1, Feb. 1973 paper, entitled "The Musandam (Northern Oman) Expedition 1971/1972", the abstract states:
"The Musandam expedition spent three months in the northern part of Northern Oman, which includes the Musandam peninsula and its remarkable drowned valleys. The expedition's main objective was to obtain data on the Quaternary history of the area. Other objectives were geological, hydrographical (including detailed tidal recording), topographical, biological collecting, and the mapping of the narrowest part of the narrow isthmus which joins the Musandam peninsula to the main promontory of Northern Oman. A geophysical (sparker) reconnaissance survey was made of the inlets, and archaeological sites were examined."
In Vol. 140, Issue1, Feb. 1974 paper detailing the second part of the scientific results, the abstract was:
"Survey work carried out in the Musandam area has resulted in an extension of the control surveys in the north of the peninsula, assisted an important geodetic survey connection between Iran and the Trucial States, procured extensive data for topographical mapping, and by heighting and collection of names has facilitated the compilation of the contoured 1:100 000 map of the Musandam peninsula published by the Society."
Also, for those who want to know more about Oman, the Royal Geographical Society organised an event on "Hidden Oman" in September 2008.
