Wednesday 11 August. Napa Valley - Monterey. 332ks
Ah, that was a lovely relaxing couple of days and with re-charged batteries we continue south, over the Golden Gate Bridge and down the misty coast.
We arrived in Monterey completely unaware (tee hee, Ed) that they were preparing for the biggest weekend of the year even though we had seen some very cool cars driving around, huge car transporters too. The Pebble Beach Concours.  A weekend for car buffs, featuring classic cars to the latest models - racing, auctions, parades etc.
The kindly lady at the visitor information office was slightly incredulous that we had driven into town without having booked accommodation so they promptly sorted out a site for us at Luguna Seca... overlooking the race track that was preparing for the weekend racing. Dave was in car heaven.

Thursday 12 August. Monterey - Ventura Beach. 479ks
Away at 7am along  '17 Mile Drive' scenic tour through the forest and along the coast. A fabulous drive along which some very flash cars were cruising. Driving down towards Big Sur we passed hundreds of spectators waiting expectantly armed with cameras and then suddenly and surprisingly we came upon a big car meet in a secluded carpark, out in the middle of nowhere, preparing to parade back up the coast. With a screech of brakes and a sharp turn we were in amongst it.  Alfa Romeos, Ferraris, Bugatis, Bentleys, Jaguars, Mustangs, Maseratis, Cobras to name but a few (Not one Triumph!!!! Ed ) Dozens of them all lining up for a  coastal drive back up to Pebble Beach. We wandered around up close and personal. Dave really really was in car heaven!

Friday 13 August. Ventura - Phoenix. 749ks
Tired and ratty after 11 hours puddling around in the truck yesterday we arrived at the Ventura camping ground around 7pm and booked a drive on tent site, sight unseen. It was a cool 10* and the site was right alongside the busy freeway, in fact only a few metres away. Ear plugs didn't work nor did they with pillows on top.  Last night was definitely the last night of camping.... ever! haha
We took off today happy in the knowledge that we were going to be staying with Andy and Di for a few nights and couldn't wait to get there. We continued to hug the coast passing some fabulous homes in Malibu and Santa Monica then after zooming through LA it was into the country where we saw acres and acres of lush ready-lawn growing.  Extensive market gardening too with lots of Mexican workers beavering away in the fields. Then desert.
We received a lovely warm welcome from Andy and Di when we arrived at their gorgeous home around 6.02pm. Drinks and wonderful dinner by the pool ensued, then we retired to our private casita for a nice quiet uninterrupted sleep.

Saturday 14th August. Phoenix
A hot sunny day. 42* would you believe. Thank goodness for air conditioned everything. Only the golf cart wasn't! A look around the shops - especially the big supermarket which I love to poke around, a restaurant lunch and much washing and packing up of the awning!

Sunday 15th August. Phoenix.
A day of rest. Another one.
