Where I stayed
On this trip we loaded up on one of the local buses. I managed to get a seat, but ended up offering my seat away. I liked standing up better anyway. Better view. I met a volunteer, Stuart, from England who was volunteering helping protect turtle eggs on the beaches between Quepos & Playa Dominical. He said they had seen 2 turtles in the last few weeks, and rescued the eggs to bring to an incubator. But, sadly, he said, they saw pochers every night. He said this project, although worthwhile, not as fullfilling as his previos project, of building homes for family's in Ecquidor
I enjoyed the bus ride, although it was a rocky ride, and slow. We arrived at Playa Dominical, and we didn't realize the shape of the town, or we probably would have stayed at Roca Verde, run by my friend Karin's brothers. The shape of the town didn't realize that the Roca Verde is right on the beach. We stayed at another place, although cheaper, not nearly as nice, Tortilla flats. Still a good crew there, nice bar tender, nice people.
The next day we took a horse ride up to a waterfall. First time I had been on a horse in a long long time. It took some getting used to. It was a wonderful trip, great food, great tour guides who showed us wonderful birds and some other creatures (giant rats?).
Once we reached the waterfalls the swimming in the water was great. Not at all cold. Three of my friends climbed up, and jumped off the falls. Nice job. I should have been there, but I am a little scared of heights.
On the way back all the horses got in a little competition of who was going to be first. I seemed to be on the laziest horse, but he still didn't want anyone going in front of him, and when he had a chance would cut off other horses. There was quite a bit of clogging up, and one of my friends (Liz) actually got kicked. She kept her spirits up, and although in pain, kept going and had a good time that night.
That night we went to a great Italian resturant in town. <<<Name... being... I'll remember and fill it in later>> After a little confusion, we all ended up at Roca Verde that night, which the dance club scene is the place to be on a Saturday night. Small town, seemed like everyone in town must have been there.
Sunday did some more exploring. The beaches in town are a little rough for swimming, a little south is better swimming beaches. And also the beaches south of Playa Dominical, you can find deserted beaches, and almost be the only one on the beach. Really nice place to be.
