On Saturday morning we headed out at 11am and drove down to The Sidewalk Cafe where Edwina and her swollen foot were waiting for us. We filled our stomachs with southern goodness and witnessed the darling Edwina give a beautiful speech to a couple who had just become engaged.

By 1:30pm we had begun the 4 hour ride to Charlotte, NC. It was my day for driving and I really enjoyed being behind the wheel and getting to know Diego a bit more. The tunes made a perfect soundtrack to the autumn colors that surrounded us like Fruity Pebbles and filled the scenery as far as we could see as if we were merely characters in a Bob Ross painting.

"Happy trees!"

In Durham we made a pit stop at Wal-Mart and played scavenger hunt for the creepiest items which held no real challenge but teemed with entertainment value. There were Wonder Woman piggy banks, Duck Dynasty slippers, adorKable t-shirts, and even though we didn't find any of the items we initially stopped for (a swimsuit and jean shorts) we still left more fulfilled than we were an hour earlier.

We rolled into Charlotte around 6pm and relaxed in our comfy Sheraton beds for an hour or so before heading off to fill our stomachs full of beer and BBQ courtesy of Max's Speed Shop. The place was perfect, complete with football games, cleavage bearing waitresses, hundreds of craft beers, and the best damn BBQ and fixin's one could ever hope for. And to top it all off they had $3.00 mystery beers (i.e. bartender's choice) guessed it....$5.00 fireball shots!

The stars were aligned that night, and it seemed as if nothing could go wrong. We called our driver Francis and were almost home when it was suggested we turn around and take in some more of the local culture.

Twenty minutes later we found ourselves at The Men's Club, and as we departed the cab we all knew we were in trouble. Maybe it was the vomit-stained carpets, maybe it was the creepy frat boys with their crooked smiles and dirty dollar bills, or maybe it was the sad, sad, dancers who danced with their knees instead of their hearts and hoped that no one would notice.

The only redeeming moment was watching Adhara get propositioned by a muscular African American man and his equally toned lady friend. Adhara held up her smallest digit, responding with a stern "I'd crush you with my pinky finger!" and walked away, leaving them bewildered in her stead.

We returned home around 2am with the lingering smell of ribs and leather and went straight to bed, anticipating a new start in the morning.
