We’re sitting here in Orlando again waiting by “The Grind” (now closed) for some guy (Todd) out of BYOFL to hang out with us today. He said The Cure show tonight is sold out so that should be very cool.

Last night wasn’t as good as we planned- Moe felt sick all night and slept under the Greenpeace table through the whole show. Donnie came outside and rescued us from the heat around 6:30pm so we could watch the soundcheck. Robert was asking for requests and they ended up screwing around with “If Only Tonight We Could Sleep,” “Piggy in the Mirror,” “Play For Today,” “Jumping Someone Else’s Train” and also “Shiver and Shake.”

Afterwards we went back to the table and Moe almost instantly fell asleep under the table making it impossible for me to see the show since Troy kept having to go backstage to get drumheads and drumsticks from the dressing room. But another lady (Kris, the daughter of the tour drivers/head honchos of the tour who helps set up their dressing room and Budweiser beer) kept coming and talking to me throughout the show and I told her the whole story and troy put in some good words for us like she usually does. She said she could get backstage passes pretty easily but we’re not expecting anything. “Don’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched” is what my mom would say.

So the show went pretty good (we even got free Winston cigarettes from a display by the arena) and afterwards we drove out of Miami for about an hour before stopping at a “nighttime security” wayside. Talked to a guard and some other guy and had a cig before calling it a night.
Woke up and hung around for about an hour and a half before heading to Orlando (by the way, waysides in Florida aren’t bad or “unsafe” at all).

6:30pm-ish (same day)

Went to the thrift store with our “friend of the day” and got free stuff because his girlfriend works there. Went downtown for a while and got some mace and got a $30.00 parking ticket. Can you say QUOTA? So we relocated and went back to Subway for a veggie sub splurge and I made a back for my “In-Between days” shirt with Robert’s favorite quote from the movie “Dream a Little Dream” that says: “…And don’t you know that it’s worth every treasure on earth to be young at heart?”

[I love that I had no idea this was actually a Frank Sinatra song. The fact that I thought Robert Smith got this quote from a Corey Feldman/ Corey Haim film just tickles me to no end]

3:30am same night (kinda)

O.K. this story gets interesting. We’re at a rave called “ZEN” and it’s incredible. I’m not saying that’s all good. Not in the least bit. But going back, the show was average, but Donnie brought us the Cure leftovers, which was basically salmon, turkey, lima beans, some potatoes and a shitload of cheese and bread. We were stuck at the table until halfway through the 2nd set so we couldn’t have a cigarette for quite a while. But we finished up and headed for this. We were expecting around 200 people and the latest I heard for a count was 15,000 and growing. It’s absolutely crazy in this place, but I can’t handle this type of music.

Maybe it’s the atmosphere, maybe it’s the people, maybe the combination of them all. (Or maybe it’s the sex with the drugs and the fools…) It didn’t take them long to learn the new smile…
I’m sorry but to me it’s the lack of potential, and although I’ve never written or spoken of it it’s something I’ve felt for a long time. Probably sometime after the other peoples’ perception of my “lack of potential” had disappeared. I guess I never had a chance to view it from the outside until now. Hovering over the burn in the arms of my subliminal superman…
