Well here we are fully rested from our train from New York.

Woke up to a heavily overcast day with thunderstorms forecast, but we are still going to venture out!  After breakfast, we hit the streets!  Didn't take long to find the shops....hardly surprising really as the hotel is in the thick of it!  Chicago is much better than New York, streets less crowded!

First thing we did was to buy a 3 day pass for the subway trains and buses as we plan to travel out of central Chicago and see what's there.  Found our way into Sears department store where Eileen actually bought something.........a collapsable set of measuring cups from kitchen department!

Decided to go to Chicago's Navy Pier which is area on coast of Lake Michigan where locals go First Class Train Travel!
First Class Train Travel!
.  Started walking there but after a while decided to jump on bus....good idea as it was still a fair way to go from where we were.  As soon as we got there down came the rain!  Headed into McDonalds for the usual burger, fries and cola; and shelter from rain. Rain stopped shortly after and we went for walk down pier.  Rain then started falling more & more, so we decided to head back to hotel.  Managed to get bus before being rained on any more, but got rather wet after jumping off bus and walking last few hundred yards to hotel!

Whilst sat in hotel lobby waiting for our room to be serviced, we noticed a guy asking for umbrella from reception.  Apparently hotel supplies umbrellas to guests who forget to bring their own for duration of stay.  Eileen rushed up to receptionist and we had our protection against rain!

Shortly after, we noticed that rain had stopped; so loaded with umbrella and lightweight rain coats we hit the streets again.  Jumped on subway train to area called "Magnificent Mile".  As soon as we came out on street, we found we were in glorious sunshine and rising temperatures.....so much for thunderstorms!!

Eileen in seventh heaven again, shops everywhere!  Still no gadget shops....I think they've been disguised to keep me out!  Walked all way back to hotel for a well deserved rest before having shower and going out for meal at Thai curry house.

Tomorrow we are jumping on trains to see where they take us.....hopefully weather will stay fine!

Hotel we are staying in is a lot better than one we stayed at in New York.  Room is a lot bigger and brighter.....even has coffee making facilities!  Biggest bonus is that we have FREE internet, so we can surf for as long as we like!

Watch this space for further exploits!
