You know it's really really hot when...

Nathan here: Another day in paradise. Despite the fact that the weather is almost unberably hot, requring repeated applications of sunscreen, we're having a super time in, out and above the water. That's right. We all took up the sport of parasailing today. Tara was first to be towed behind the speed boat, Cil followed and then I went last. Quite a thrill actually.
Tara here: Yes, the tanned beach boys strap you solidly into a harness, attach you to a parachute (thought at first that it should be bigger but whatever) and then tell you to run as far and as fast as you can when the boat pulls the rope tight. Happened quickly but you're airborn before you know it. What a rush. Cil had a great time too - as did Nathan. Check out the pics - they're great.
The only thing was that to get going you had to run along the beach and in the water until the boat/parachute pulls you up. There is a natural tendency to want to run and then just jump when the water gets to your feet - which worked for Cil and I. It did not, however, work so well for Nathan as when he ran and jumped, instead of being pulled up he was dragged along in the water for a few seconds before being pulled up. We have it all on video for proof...
Nathan here: yep, whales don't fly easily.
Tara again: Being that it is 38 degrees in the shade in Phuket, this is a little section we're going to call, "You know it's really hot when..."
Cil says: You know it's really hot when even I have to use Nathan's Coppertone 45 Sunblock...
Nathan says: You know it's really hot when I get a sunburn while sitting under a sun umbrella and wearing SPF 45 sunscreen...
Tara says: You know it's really hot when the bottle of water you leave in the sun burns your mouth after an hour of sitting out...
Nathan says: You know it's really hot when even the tips of your toes get burned because you forgot to put sunscreen on them...
Tara says: You know it's really hot when even the Thai people are saying "hot, very hot"...
Cecilia says: You know it's hot when even I get a burn!
In Phuket we continued with Cil's Amazing Race theme. One of her tasks was a detour - a choice between two pros and cons. Her choices were the following: Travel 10 km to Phuket's bungy jump park and bungy jump topless in Thailand, a country not known for its safety standards; OR proceed to the nearest corner store and pick up a bag of peanuts to feed the locals. She, surprisingly, picked the latter.
Little did she know that "feeding the locals" referred to the local monkeys that live in Phuket town. Patrick, our friend and dive instructor took us with his kids and wife to an infamous hill where we fed peanuts to the monkeys.
Nathan here: Really have to jump in here. The night before we bought four bags of peanuts. I know, there's only three of us but I thought an extra bag of peanuts might be useful, even though Tara said we didn't need four bags. Can you see where I'm going with this? So we exit the car and before you know it, you're surrounded by dozens and dozens of monkeys. Now Cil and I took some time to examine the situation. Not Tara. She grabbed a bag of peanuts and started to distribute them. Until they started to get really close to her and she panicked and dropped the bag - which was promptly scooped up. One bag down. Before Cil and I know what's happened, Tara grabs a second bag and - again - begins to hand out the nuts.
Until she's surrounded again and, you guessed it, panicks and drops the second bag. What the ??? At this point, Cil and I are like "you're cut off." I quickly gave Tara the camera and sent her to the sidelines so that Cil and I could feed them. By this point, Patrick has also informed us that you can feed them by hand. Sure enough, they delicately grab the peanuts right out of your hand. You hardly feel a thing. An amazing experience and there was no need to panick. Poor Tara.
Tara one more time: Yes, they are quite delicate creatures. Turns out they were not closing in on me to scratch my eyes out, they were just curious. Who knew? They seemed vicious at first - really.
The rest of our day was spent at the beach where we spotted the lovely creature we have displayed on our blog. Yes, we know the G-string picture should come with a warning - but we want to give you all the real Thailand beach experience so we decided not to censor anything. Enjoy!
More blogs to come - we have both internet and time now before we set off to our next destination.
