Welcome to Nathan and Tara's travel blog for their 2006-07 round the world trip. For most of you, introductions are unnecessary. However, it's possible a visitor or two might stumble across this record of our journey.

To you unsuspecting guests, welcome. But take note, we offer no apologies for the content, or lack thereof.

Tara and I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and we've been married for two years and change, which is long enough to start talking about the "next step." You married guys know what I'm talking about, but for Royko and the rest of you singles, the next step is called kids. Now don't get me wrong, I would love to have kids one day, although relatives and friends could argue easily that my desire is never on display. To say that I make every face imaginable when the subject comes up is putting it mildly. Purely an act I insist. Thing is, I just don't want kids now. Hence the idea of a trip.

Trip planning began approximately a year and half ago, but took a serious turn when we sold our house this past Spring. I guess the final green light came this Summer when we received approval for a leave of absence from work. These past few months have not been without challenges. While not homeless, we've moved a couple of times and are currently residents with my in-laws. With the exception of clothes, personal items and our trusty computer, our belongings are packed and stored in a variety of locations (thanks to those that are storing our items - although we reserve the right to withdraw our thanks if you sell our furniture while we're away).

Our departure is slated for December 4 where we'll fly from Ottawa to Beijing, China. In a nutshell, our trip around the world will take us to Southeast and Central Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and South America before returning home in August, 2007.

So with a week to go, we've got work to finish, friends and family to see, more money to burn and bags to pack. Please stay tuned.
