It was National Day at the church we've been going to. Everyone wore the traditional clothing of their own state, and there was music and prayer in the regional languages. It was amazing!
The church service started at 9am and we left at noon, and it was still going. (But we were tired and hungry...!) It was such a wonderful, unique experience! I didn't understand much of what was being said or sung, but it didn't matter. From the moment the service began, I could feel the spirit of the Lord there, and the energy was unbelievable. One by one, the groups of people came up to the front of the church and shared songs and prayers in their own languages. I tried to sing along where I could (we sang "God is so good" in many different languages!) and when I couldn't, I just listened and smiled.
This was my third week at the church there, and my last Sunday with them
I went to the front of the church, which was packed full of people this Sunday, and they asked me to sing a song! The first song that came to mind was Amazing grace, so I took the microphone and began to sing. Immediately, the whole congregation joined in with me. It was an unbelievable experience, up in front of them singing, with all those voices and their beautiful accents, singing along with me, in praise to God! They even put the words up on the overhead! I sang 2 verses, and then spoke to them. I thanked them for the past 3 weeks of worship, and talked about how I had come to Delhi to work and was so blessed to find such a place to worship as well. Then I prayed for them. (I was very nervous in this, by the way!! They are so passionate in their prayers... I felt very "mellow" by comparison!) I prayed for their boldness and faithfulness in reaching the city around them, and thanked God for his grace and love, no matter what continent we were on. I was so moved and felt so humble to be there in front of them all that way... It was a memory I will never forget!!

children in flag-wear!
. Imagine my surprise when after a few hours, one of the men leading the service spoke to the congregation about how they were truly blessed that the service was really international because I was there! And then asked if I would pray for them later. Sure enough, about 20 minutes later, he called me up front.I went to the front of the church, which was packed full of people this Sunday, and they asked me to sing a song!
