With a good nights sleep we were ready for a visit in to Burma, this can be hit and miss, depending on the day, the political climate, and which way the winds blowing, however for us it was quite staight forward. We left Thailand by longtail boat passing through many customs, immigration and after standing on one leg whilst juggling three lemons and singing the national anthem backwards we managed to get in to Myanmar(Burma). On arrival a lad of about 18 turned up and said hello I am a tourist guide, so am I said the smaller lad who had just popped in the scene, so am I said the you girl of about 11 years of age. The town of Kawthoung has a market, a chinese temple and a jetty so the benifits of a guide are very slim, despite our request to visit Burma alone the three trondled on behind occassionaly pointing out the obvious. Myanmar is a very poor country but the people are very friendly if not a bit cautious of us. I purchased a bunch of bananas from the market and they had pips! well I never,(must be wild or somthing like that) After eating two of the bunch and finding a suitable home for the pips and skins I offered the rest to the Myanmar three, they didn't want any so I had to spend the day holding them. As we entered the chinese temple the three young guides pointed out we were in a chinese temple( they were trying hard!) As soon I had removed our shoes and entered I noticed a donation box and a buddist monk, I instantly though oh dear I don't have any Myanmar money, the monk came up to us, bowed his head and lit an insence stick and gave it to us to offer up. Oh dear I realy feel bad now with no money, then I noticed a table in front of the candles with offerings of fruit, Well, how well planned was that to have known to bring Bananas!....and I did'nt have to carry them any more.
