Day 10... maybe..
Ok, I was looking forward to coming to Kuala Lumpur almost as much as seeing the Soldiers in Xi'an. Since we got in late around 2am we took a little nap cause we had to be ready for our tour guide to pick us up at 7am. Our day was to be filled with white-water rafting and then jungle trekking. Mr. Chow was our driver to the location. He spoke no English and played this mix cd of American music over and over and over again there and back! I think I have had my fill of Celine for a while. He stopped at a Dunkin Donuts for some breakfast be we got there. We were supposed to have jungle hiked first then rafted.
We had to wait a while for other groups to get there so we could all go down the river together. I was so excited, I have never been white water rafting before and to do it in Malaysia through a jungle even cooler. The total time down was an hour half to two ours. We took our time and body surfed and swam in the water, I only wish I had my camera to take pictures! The company who runs the tours takes pictures so we should be able to buy them online of us. Frank isn't really a nature person but did pretty well down the river. We then had lunch. It was home style Malaysian. I pretty much want to eat anything local on these trips, although some American fast food every once in a while hits the spot! It was one of my favorite meals on the trip, some chicken, eggs with spicy sauce, rice, and some flavored tea. There was some fish too, but it was a whole fish cut up and I could not deal with the head and scales on it!
They then took Frank, Denise, and myself back to change and to get ready for our jungle hiking. I don't think it was necessarily a jungle. Oh just so you know we are in about 100 degree weather here, so hiking may not have been the best idea. We had two tour guides, one I don't' think told us his name and another named Doom. I don't think that was how his name was supposed to be pronounced but that is what it sounded like to me. I was picturing a natural trail from the pictures online and thought we would see waterfalls and climb over bridges and take pictures. A nice stroll through the jungle. I could not have been more wrong. We were climbing a mountain with no trail. Frank was so not liking this and wanted it to end as soon as it began. I was sweating so much as we went through all this foliage. Then at one point Denise was like you have a worm on you, which she got off. Then about 20 mins later as we got to a top point we started looking at our legs and feet. We had leeches on us! I took my shoes and socks on and there were a couple sucking at my blood. Frank and Denise both had them. At that point I has done with the hiking but we were only half way. Oh I forgot to mention that they have rubber trees planted everywhere here and they have little spouts in them with bowls attached to catch it. They make rubber, tires, and condoms out of this stuff. The indigenous people has our tour guides told us collect it from the bowls and sale it. They live in little huts/shacks in the woods and go out daily to collect the sap. Their huts are just little stick houses with nothing more than a roof on it.
As we made our way down Denise and Frank both were falling down and sliding everywhere. It was kinda funny to watch them but then made me nervous when one was behind me cause I just was picturing them wiping me out too. I didn't want to fall and dirty my clothes though cause I got to keep wearing the same stuff over and over again. We finally made it down the hill and rinsed off in the river and then back to site where Mr. Chow was waiting for us to drive us home.
We were exhausted from the days events and showered and then ate and found some more markets street sellers next door to our hotel. This hotel may not be the nicest but it is the best when comes to where it is located. Of course we bought a few things. We thought our money went far in China it comes much further here. I had wanted to have a night out since it was Saturday but there was no way after our day and then being stuffed from dinner. It was a local chain place but I didn't care I was too hungry to be just walking around and around to find a place to eat. A common occurrence on our trip.
Back through the street vendors and then off to bed.
Until the next one

What an experience!
Hi Nathan - I am really enjoying your travel blog and reading about your adventures! Just about every day Robb stops by to ask 'how are they doing'! Sounds like you have had a fantastic experience so far - I'm sure there are many more stories that I will get to hear when you get back. I think that the leeches would have completely done me in! I'm with Frank on that! Looking forward to seeing you as well as your pictures!
