We planned to stay at Otres Beach, which is a lot quieter and less developed than the main beach in Sihanoukville. When we arrived back in town from the ferry, we got a on the back of a couple of mopeds and made our way there. The road that led to the beach road was like a mini shanty town so we were each wondering what to expect on the back of our bikes. The beach road was just dusty and not paved at all. On either side were bamboo bungalows, which were massively over-priced, and 'cool' backpacker bars. We eventually found a sealed room (although there were loads of Mosquitos) but it was not as nice and more expensive than Sihanoukville town. We spent the afternoon on the beach then ate expensive food in a 'cool' resort. We decided we weren't getting much value for money here and decided to head back to spotless 'Mick and Craig's' for the rest of our time in 'Snooky'.

The next day we rented a private cinema room (some English guy has downloaded thousands of films and charges people $4 a head to watch them in the viewing rooms) to watch Home Alone 2 in an attempt to try and make us feel a bit Christmassy. It was good, but the sunshine isn't really conducive to Christmas!!

The next day we headed down to the beach and happened to sit next to a film and music director who has semi-retired to Bali. He was pretty crazy. He had signed up to an Asian dating site while he was travelling so he could take girls on dates in the places he went to; he told us a few funny stories. Shane asked who he'd worked with and the list was quite impressive: Whitney Houston, Rolling Stones and Mariah Carey among others and had met Quincy Jones. His work also included shows for ABC and other stuff he couldn't remember (possibly due to his recreational drug usage)!

Sihanoukville is not somewhere we'd ever go back to, but it was a corner of Westernisation in an otherwise truly Asian country.
