Today we experienced the Amalfi coast from a range of new perspectives. The day started with a 30 minute physically testing walk down the mountainside of Amalfi from our hotel Grand Excelsior to the harbourside of the famous Italian Mediterranean coastal city. The walk descended over 200 metres through staircases that wove through lemon orchards and spectacular views of the Amalfi coast.

After reaching the waterline we stopped for a breather as the descent was challenging on the knees! We had then arranged to Skype with the family back in Sydney, whilst sipping drinks from a cafe in the main piazza in Amalfi. All was well in Sydney....we are realising that our children are young adults now!

After a lunch we explored Amalfi's Cathedral - Duomo di Amalfi, of Saint Andrew, the first apostle of Christ, whose bones are supposedly buried at this sacred site. Another amazing historical experience in Italy!

It was then time to explore the coastline from the water. We hitched a ride on the local water explorer, just 25 minutes of relaxing motoring with one of the most amazing costal vistas I have ever experienced.  Checkout the photos!  The motor boat took us to Positano, another beautiful beach side town. It not only has amazing views, but high quality, chic shopping. Time for rest .... we are writing this blog entry with a Corona beer in hand, while we wait for our return water transport to Amalfi.

Tomorrow we leave this coastal oasis for Naples and connection through to Rome. Apart from experiencing many new sites, sounds and tastes of Italy, we are meeting some interesting people, which we hope to experience much more of through our travels still to come!
