Ljubljana is a wikked city full of charm... the old town is fairly cozy, tons of river side terrraces and cafes... the market between the two bridges is awesome... never ending stalls of fresh produce and crafts... people are friendly and helpful and its quite affordable... i spent one full day walking around the old town, out to the castle and really enjoyed it... my hostel was kinda wierd... they picked me up from the train station and that was so wonderful... and then i checked in and did not see anyone for the next 3 days... the reception hours said 9-22 but there was NEVER anyone there... and nor was there really any other guests... i would randomly see them, but never in the kitchen or sitting room... it didn't make well for meeting anyone, thats for sure! but my last day when i was coming back from Bled, i met Nathan who was staying at another hostel, so we went there to make dinner before checking out some of the local nightlife... there i met a ton of people and we all joined forces and went out to some pretty kewl clubs..
From Ljubljana i was able to see a few of the beautiful sights that Slovenia has to offer..
another day trip was out to Bled.. a lovely little town and gorgeous lake... took a nice stroll around the entire lake trying to figure out how to get to the island.. there were lots of boats but no one renting them out or telling me how i could get there... :( oh well... the walk was awesome, if only a little chilly... then a good hike up to the castle and a tour around it... its location is stunning and the view is awesome, but the castle itself isnīt the most impressive...
decor at club
. one was all decorated in skeletons and zombie stuff... it was pretty wikked... cocktails were buy one get one free... but the good ones being 6 or 7 Euro (even for 2 drinks) didn't convince us to drink them instead of the 2.5 Euro half liter beers... it was a change from clubs around the rest of Europe that don't get going until well after midnite... this place was just hopping at 11.... people dancing on the tables singing bad american 90's pop and just going crazy... good times... so we hung out for a bit and them parted ways... Nathan and i wanted to check out Metelkova... its like a mini version of Christiania in Copenhagen, a kind of squatter/hippy commune... the club we found there was more to our liking... good old fashion punk rock and hell, they even played gogol bordello!! it was wikked... half liter beers here were only 1.5 Euro!! we were having such a good time, that i lost track of time and almost missed my nite train to Marseille!! i left in damn near a run back to my hostel, which was a good half hour outta the old town... so i get there, and i had told the staff that i left my stuff in the cabinet in the room i had been staying in and to leave the door unlocked for me.... well, i get in and the door is locked, and of course no staff around... so after really heaving on the door i finally heard some rustling... there were people in there and they let me grab my stuff... i sure felt like an ass waking them up at 2 in hte morning, but hell, the staff shoulda put my bags elsewhere if they were going to put people in that room! oh well, i realized there was no way i would make it back to hte train station with all my gear in less time that in took me to run here without it! so i hailed the first cab and breathed a sigh of relief!!! moral of the story; donīt party too hard before getting on a nite train in the wee hours of the morning.. From Ljubljana i was able to see a few of the beautiful sights that Slovenia has to offer..
dragon bridge
. Postojna caves were amazing... the most visited caves in all of Europe... they load you on this little train that takes you about 10 km in and then you walk around for another 1.5 km. the stalagmites and stalactites are different colors depending on the minerals in the soil that the rain water is bringin in. from pure white to greyish black and rusty reds... they take anywhere from 10 to 100 years to grow one mm... pretty wild... there are these little salamander things that live in the darkest areas of the caves... they didnīt need their sight, so their eyelids have grown over their eyes ... they are really cute... another day trip was out to Bled.. a lovely little town and gorgeous lake... took a nice stroll around the entire lake trying to figure out how to get to the island.. there were lots of boats but no one renting them out or telling me how i could get there... :( oh well... the walk was awesome, if only a little chilly... then a good hike up to the castle and a tour around it... its location is stunning and the view is awesome, but the castle itself isnīt the most impressive...
