the bus ride from split to dubrovnik was pretty incredible... its a pretty cliff like, rocky coastline with this pristine water below.. and orchards full of tangerine trees! i walked to the hostel, which ended up being quite a hike, and made it just in time, cause it started pouring! much better hostel than split! kitchen, being eating area, really nice terrace to sit and chill... first full day i went to walk the walls in the morning... i have done the old city wall thing in almost every city that still has them up... this was by far the best preserved and most impressive... i spent a good 2 hours up there taking photos of the gorgeous views... the old city on the ground level is awesome too... lots of neat little alleyways and streets... lots are dead ends or lead to rubbish piles, but nonetheless its beautiful... that nite i ran into a bunch of people on the terrace and we went out for beer and pizza... the last few cities i had been in i hadn't met anyone to go out with at nite, so i was overdue for a good nite on the town... next day i was hoping to go kayaking with one of the girls i met, but the company she was going with, was booked full :(... so me and jason ended up going to the island that is right in front of the old city... its about 15 minutes by ferry... we just lazed about the rocky beach and walked around the botanical garden (pretty sad one i have to admit) and found this little lagoon type thing... it looked all enclosed, but yet it had waves crashing onto the shore... we were tempted to go searching for the source of the open water... that nite i took the ferry over to Bari in Italy.. i ended up having to eat a nites accomodations cause i thought the ferry left wednesday sunday so i booked for 3 nites, then i found out it leaves on tuesdays and saturdays... i couldn't really stick around for another 3 nites so i had to bail on my paid nite.. that was unfortunate... one of the guys at the hostel was also taking the ferry so we went together... we thought we had booked reclining seats, but once we go on, we realized that our seats were the cafeteria floor and our beds the very same! as much as i complain about some shitty nite trains and ferry i have to say this was up there for being one of the most uncomfortable... the floor was carpetted, but it wasn't much comfort..
