Brasov was really quite stunning... got in terribly early off the nite train and went to the hostel, they were kind enough to give me the bed early so i could sleep until morning... first item on the agenda was to hike up to this giant BRASOV sign... like the HOLLYWOOD sign... that was a great walk and a great view... the beer at the top could not have tasted better! hahaha... its a pretty small city, so as far as seeing the city, its done in an afternoon... the girl at the hostel was telling us about a small town called Sinaia, so me and Nadine and Nehemiah (a few people i met at the hostel) went out there one afternoon... there was a lovely street party going on... food and beer tents, stages with theater and music... it was awesome... we walked up to the Peles which is a fantastic palace that is so well preserved, its unbelievable.. the carpets, furniture, tapestries, weaponry... you name it, its all original and in very good condition... the king was a well travelled man, and so he decorated rooms in completely authentic ethnic styles.. Brasov's ''hollywood sign''
Brasov's ''hollywood sign''
. swiss, turkish, arabian, oriental and thats only a few... in one of the rooms, the chairs in it took 3 generations to craft... such impressive sights!!! its wierd, in a lot of romania and some other eastern countries, you have to pay extra to take photographs... in the case of the Peles, it was more than the actual admision fee!!  so i didn't get any photos :( ...
from Brasov i went to Sibui for just one nite with the same people... it is another lovely little town full of character... we had a great nite on the town, walked the city walls, played giant chess in the park, Nehemiah totally kicked my ass... we drew quite a good crowd... even the security guard was watching for a while... good fun.. we went out to this open air museum thing just out of town... it had 120 or so dwellings and machinery from all over Romania... from wagons, to windmills and houses all spread out over a few acres of land, with horses grazing about... it was really quite interesting... we grabbed some drinks and sat by the water... great way to spend an afternoon... i couldn't seem to find the information to just catch the bus or train through Bosnia or Serbia over to Croatia, so i ended up having to backtrack through Hungary...
