. they hurried us on and thats when we realized we were getting on the ferry through the undercarriage truck entrance!!! talk about just making it! had we missed that one, it would have been another 4 hours i think until the next ferry! quite the luck...
our hostel was in the old prison right on the harbour. it was very authentic looking!.. complete with barbed wire along the outside wall... we were in one of the cells, pretty tight quarters for 2 people!
The day we had to explore Visby was beautiful... the old ruins around the city from the 12th century are absolutely incredible.. we were able to climb up one of them cause it was open for some other people, that was really kewl... the old city is surrounded by a wall, only 3.5km walk around, which we did in the evening, WOW!..
usually my travels have consisted of missing trains and trips taking longer than they should have... and granted it took us most the day to get to Visby on Gotland, but we were so lucky catching the connections we did.... getting off the ferry from Helsinki we caught the quick transit to Central station, where we took a while deciding which type of transit to take to the ferry terminal for Gotland... decided on the cheaper of course and then that ended a few stops early cause they were working on the tracks (makes me think of my trip to Austria), and we were to continue by bus... by the time we got all our shit on and got over to where the bus was, it was pulling away!!! we started chasing it, and thank goodness we caught it... so then we get into the ferry terminal not racing, not realizing that the ferry is now delayed because the train getting there was delayed... so they rush us through, they had to unlock a few doors for us and hurried us through... it didn't look like any pedestrian ferry entrance that i had seen, we totally thought we were in the wrong place..
