Night ferry to Helsinki was pretty wikked... cozy little rooms, a little roomier than the night trains... the ferry is equipped with a pub with good live music, a nightclub (kinda lame), a resturant, casino and duty free store... its like a damn mini mall... oddly enough they were playing the game 1 of the stanley cup playoffs... probably the last thing i expected to see on a scandinavian ferry... but it was kewl to catch a game... i guess i am a true canadian!
Helsinki itself was beautiful... we were right close to the ferry terminal (thanks kristina!) so thats always a bonus... the fish market, decieving cause theres lots of wikked stuff besides fish, was really awesome... the building style was quite different from the rest of europe that i've seen so far... beautiful old churches, one in particular although it wasn't old, was a rock church... it was carved into the rock (lots of Helsinki seems to be built on or around rock) and the inside was all unfinished so you could see the rock face and the roof was a copper dome...it was first used as an amphitheater and the consecrated only recently as a church...it was pretty wikked... we finished the night off with a beautiful view of the city... there's a bar called Ateljee (i think) and its on top of this fairly tall hotel, so the view is awesome... we scored a patio seat and got some pics of the city... hell, we even took pics of the view from the toilet it was so impressive...
The ferry trip back to stockholm was a little more exciting... complete with Finnish karaoke.... pretty entertaining... we met Kerryn from australia and partied pretty hard... again, great live music and good times...
