Ubudissa meilla oli ilo viettaa kolmatta uutta vuotta tan vuoden puolella. Hindu uus vuos Nyepi sattu Balilla just samaan aikaan. Me mentiin siis Sanuriin saavuttaessa buukkaamaan bussiliput saman tien Ubudiin. Ubud on keskella Balia (tai vahan enemman idassa) ja sellanen ihana riisipeltokaupunki. Matka Sanurista kesti jonkun tunnin. Bussiasemalla sattu niin hyva tuuri et yks pariskunta oli just lahossa sielta ja ne promotoi kovasti Tunjung-nimista hotellia meille. Se omistaja oli siina kanssa ja vei meiat sita kattomaan sen jalkeen. Me inhotaan sita kun pitaa ettii uudessa kaupungissa hotellihuonetta ja varsinkin kun kaikki paikalliset on sun kimpussa esitteineen. No Tunjung-hotelli osottautu oikeen ihanaks paikaks. Niilla on nelja bungalowin tyylista huonetta pienessa puutarhassa ja me otettiin 70 000rupian huone. Eli n.6euroo aamiaisen kera.
Tunjungin omistaja kerto meille vahan enemman illan kemuista, eli Nyepi-juhlasta. Hindujen uuden vuoden juhla. Kaduilla kannetaan paraatissa Ogoh-Ogoh hahmoja, jotka kuvaa ko.uskonnon pahoja henkia. Naa vaahtomuovihahmot poltetaan muutamaa paivaa myohemmin jotta uus vuos voidaan alottaa puhtaalta poydalta. Jotenkin nain se siis meni.
Ne hahmot oli toinen toistaan makeempia ja hirveen isoja ja ilmeisesti jokaisessa Balin kaupungissa kilpaillaan myos parhaasta hahmosta ja voittajat saa jonkun verran rahaa. Lapset oli ihan innoissaan ja turisteillekin se oli aika hieno tapahtuma. Illalla kadut oli ihan taynna ja naihin hahmoihin oli viritetty valoja silmien kohalle ja oli raketteja jne.
Ogoh-Ogoh and kids
Ja ne meni viel kerran paraatissa ja juontajat kerto vahan taustaa koko juhlalle. Seuraavana aamuna kello kuus alko hiljaisuus joka kestaa 24h. Tata paivaa kutustaan siis Silent Day:ksi. :) Kaduilla ei saanu ajaa, lentokoneet ei lentany ja sa et saa menna myoskaan kaduille kavelemaan. Piti siis istua neljan seinan sisalla ja hengailla puutarhassa. Valoja ei myoskaan ollu paljon kaytossa ja paikalliset pidattaytyy lampiman ruuan syomisesta. Hauska kokemus ja jo tosiaan kolmas uus vuos meian matkalla.
Ubud on siis ihana kaupunki mun mielesta. Ihanat maisemat! Ekana paivana syotiin lounasta ravintolassa, joka on riisipeltojen vieressa, ah!
Balilaiset kutsuu Ubudia taidekeskukseks ja siel olikin paljo kasityota, puutavaroita, koruja, tauluja yms. Paikalliset ihmiset on kovia juttelemaan, silta ei voi valttya ja se on ihan hauskaakin. Tavattiin muun muassa yhessa ravintolassa Gede-niminen tyontekija, joka aina valista ehti istua meian kaa ja rupatella.
Kolmantena paivana ma varasin ittelleni Spa-hoidot kolmeks tunniks ja Raffi lahti kaupungille. Mut tuli skootterilla noutamaan hotellilta Nura-niminen kundi ja naureskeltiin meian nimille. Sang spa kylpyla, joka ei siis oo kun lansimaalainen kylpyla, oli sellanen bambumokki missa oli eri huoneet eri hoidoille. Siella mut otti vastaan se omistaja Asti, joka on mun ikanen symppis nainen. Tosin se ei hirveesti puhunu englantia mut sen verran et pystyttiin jotain kommunikoimaan. Ensiks menin Balilaiseen perinteiseen hierontaan.

Asti siis oli yksin toissa sillon ja teki kaikki hoidot. Hieronta, noh, se oli vahan erilainen mihin oon Suomessa tottunut. Ensiks ma jouduin olemaan ihan alasti, mika oli jo vahan poskia punottavaa meikalaiselle. ;) Hieronta itessaan oli poikkeava siina mielessa et siihen kuulu jalkojen ja kasien painelua, vetelya ja taittelua suuntaan ja toiseen, sekin yks syy miks oli tosi alaston olo..hahah.. mut en siis tarkota etteiko se ollu hyva hieronta, ei, painvastoin! Tykkasin siita ja oli raukee olo. Sen jalkeen mulle tehtiin toisen tunnin ajan erilaisia kasvohoitoja ja lopuks viela tunti hiusten pehmennyshoito. Asti oli tosi onnellinen et se sai asiakkaan kun ne oli muuttanu sen miehen kaa Ubudiin ja avannu ton span vasta kaks kuukautta aikasemmin. Se halas viela mua ja pyys kirjottamaan vieraskirjaan risut ja ruusut. Nura vei mut sit takas bungalowiin. Kaikki taa makso alle 10euroo, pitais ehka hemmotella ittea vahan enemman ;D Illalla mentiin viela kattomaan Balilaista tulitanssi-showta. Meian edessa istu noin 10hengen suomalaisryhma, ilmeisesti Indonesiassa asuvia suomalaisia, jotka varasti shown ennen kun se ees varsinaisesti alko. Lapsia kuulu siihen kooriin ilmeisen mota ja niitten ruokkimiseen paikallisilla banaaninlehtiruuilla menikin jonkun aikaa. Puhumattakaan niitten hiljentamisesta ;D Tulitanssi esitys koostu kolmesta eri esityksesta ja musiikkina oli n.30miehen aantelyt.
Ubud on tahan mennessa mun lempipaikka Balilla. Harmi et matkaa pitaa jatkaa.

In Ubud we had the pleasure to witness third New Year celebration on our trip.
@ Nyepi celebration
This time a Balinese Hindu celebration Nyepi. So as we arrived in Sanur after Lembongan we booked a shuttle bus to Ubud. Ubud is in the middle (more in the east) of Bali and it's such a lovely rice-field town! The drive took about an hour. In Ubud we had good luck as we met a couple who recommended a good hotel nearby. The owner was there and he took us to see the rooms. We dislike the moment arriving in a town and no clue where to go and locals are all over you. Tunjung happened to be very nice. The garden consists of four bungalows and we took one for 70 000rp, that is around 6euros incl.breakfast. The owner was very friendly too, he told us about the Nyepi parade in the evening, what's gonna happen and where to go. The Nyepi celebration is a new year for Balinese Hindu like I told earlier. People carry around the streets these foamplastic characters Ogoh-Ogohs which are representing bad spirits. The figures will be burned after few days and tehrefore new year may begin from clean table. Something like that.
The fgures were awesome and showed Balinese have artistic skills indeed. At the same time they compete within a village of the best figure title and receive some money if the group wins.
The kids were so enthusiastic and for us tourists it was something new and great too. In the evening when the actual celebration and parade started they had all the enhancement like lights and fireworks and speakers explaining the meaning. Streets were crowded!
The next morning at six starts silence that lasts 24hours.
Nyepi celebration
The day is naturally called Silence Day. You are not allowed to drive or wander on the streets, planes dont fly, and locals fast from warm meals that day. Not many lights were in use and you basically stayed inside your home and garden. Nice experience. Like mentioned I dig Ubud, the landscape was wonderful! First day we ate at a restaurant located next to a ricefield. See pics! We saw the Monkey Sanctuary but as Im not a big fan of them there's not much to mention. The park was cool though. Balinese call Ubud as art centre and they sure have loads of things there, wooden crafts, jewelleries, paintings etc. Locals are very talkative, it cannot be avoided and it's nice as long as it's not all about selling. We even met this funny guy called Gede working in a resto and he sat with us whenever managed to and chatted this and that.
On a third day I reserved spa treatments for myself while Raffi went out in the town. Nura-named guy came to pick me up with scooter and drove me there even though it was just around the corner. Sang spa is it called and the owner Asti is a very lovely lady my age. She did the treatments that day too. She didn't speak much English but we managed to change few sentences. And the spa wasn't like the Western counterparts, it was inside a bamboo stall with different treatmetnt rooms. But not shady at all. First I spent an hour in a traditional Balinese massage. Well the massage was not like back home. First of all I was totally nude which already was discomforting. There was a sheet of course but the massage itself was of pulling and pressing and that was also one reason I kept plushing ;D hahah...but altogether it was veeery relaxing and pro once you got over the image of being nude.
After that I had a facial treatments for an hour and cream bath for hair fr another hour. And all this for less than ten euros. Asti, the owner, was so happy to have a customer on low season. They had moved to Ubud with her husband and opened the place just two months ago so very understandable. She even hugged me and asked me to write pros and cons to her guestbook.
In the evening we had Balinese fire dance show reserved, very different culture from ours but nice to see once in your lifetime.
Ubud has been my fave place so far in Bali. Just loved it.
