 Moro!

Sporen terkut kaikille. Hetken hiljaisuuden jalkeen oon taas blogin aaressa. Sporeen saapuminen meni kivuttomasti Mersingista. Pari tuntia Mersingista Malesian Johor Bahruun ja sielta paastiin alle tunnissa Singaporeen, mukaanlukien molempien maiden tullit. Ja tunnollisena suomalaisena ma ilmiannoin Suomesta tuodun Jenkki- family size purkkapussini, nyyyyh. Tullirouva sanoi: You know, chewing gum's forbidden in Spore. Ja niin ne havitti mun luvalla ne.

Ihan keskustan liepeilta oltiin varattu hostelli 8paivaks aikasemmin. Tosin suunnitelmien muuttuessa Tiomanin suhteen me oltiin nelisen paivaa liian aikasin kaupungissa.

No ekaks taytyy sanoa et Spore on aivan ihana paikka. Molempien mielesta eka sellanen Aasian kaupunki missa vois jopa asua. Taal on kaikkee: metsaa, puistoja, rantsuja, shoppailtavaa (kauppakeskus toisensa jalkeen ja edulliset hinnat!), halpa syoda ulkona (katukeittioissa ja kauppakeskusten food courteissa syot n.1,5-3lla eurolla), kansainvalinen tunnelma, englantia puhuvia paikallisia, halpa matkustaa ymparoiviin maihin, lansimaalainen nainen ei oo niin erikoinen naky niinkun muissa maissa jne. Spore on vaan just sopiva sekotus lansimaita ja Aasiaa.

Me nahtiin siis Fort Canning puisto ekoina paivina, suht iso puisto keskella kaupunkia. Pitaa kai lahettaa uus paketti kotiin.

Chinatownissa kaytiin pikasesti myos.

Yks ilta eksyttiin meian vieressa olevan Bugis Junction-kauppakeskuksen leffateatteriin kattomaan Jumper. Prrhh..

Tosi tunnelmallinen iltasin vaikkakin sellanen ihmismagneetti. Mentiin Clinic-nimiseen baariin mika on ihan paras idea mita ollaan nahty! Laitoin kuvia oheen. Hauska paikka mut kalliit drinksut, niinkun se tippa makso 25euroa...huh. Paivan budjetti.. ;)

Muutaman lasillisen jalkeen lahettiin iltapalalle Lau Pa Sat-ruokatorille.

Lauantaina me shoppailtiin omaan tahtiin Raffin kanssa.

Lopuks viela nti Poon tilas meille paikalliset jalkkarit.

Etta sellasta...

Niin, ruuan jalkeen lahettiin eri teille, me mentiin viela illalla leffaan kattomaan Fool's Gold. Leffatkin on halpoja taalla verrattuna Suomeen, n.4-5euroa.

Maanantaina meil oli elainpaiva. Raffi lahti heti aamusta lintupuistoon.

Eilen, keskiviikkona kaytiin viela Sentosalla, talla kertaa Palawan rannalla. Mentiin sinne aika illasta kun paiva meni taas Vivo-City mall:ia kierrellessa ;)

Kun aurinko oli laskenu mentiin Luge-radalle. Se on sellanen pieni rata makea alas pienissa kelkoissa, joissa on pyorat alla. Oli aika hauska mut lyhyt formula ;)

Lopuks viela kaytiin kattoo 15minsaa kestava 4D leffa Sentosalla ja lahettiin kotiin nukkumaan.

Tan hetkinen tilanne. Ollaan muutettu taas suunnitelmia ja lennetaankin Balille huomen illalla. Meian matka-agenda ei toiminu Sumatralta Balille, joten muutettiin suuntaa. Huomenna siis Indonesian seikkailut alkaa..

Terkuin Nora

Greetz from Spore! After a slight silence in updating my blog I'm back. Transporting ourselves from Mersing to Spore was easy. Couple of hours from Mersing to Johor Bahru by bus and less than hour through Customs at both sides from there. And as a conscientious Finn I gave up my Jenkki-family size chewing gums in the customs.

Right around the centre we had booked a guesthouse for 8nights earlier but since the plans changed concerning Tioman we were four days ahead of schedule. Cozy Corner was fully booked when we arrived but we could remove our booking to start from the next day. So we had to spend a night in a hotel a bit more expensive than Cozy Corner. Cozy Corner cost us S$40 twin room per night, about 20euros that is. It was one of the cheapest places we could find within the centre. And the location is excellent, you can basically walk around the town.

And what comes to our itinerary here. Well first I have to tell this place is awesome. The first Asian city we could live in! You'll find everything here: woods, parks, beaches, malls (read:inexpensive shopping!!), street stalls and food courts where you can eat with 1,5-3euros, international atmosphere, English speaking locals, cheap to travel around Spore and to neighboring countries, no long stares at western women etc. It's just the right mixture of Western and Asian influences.

So what we've seen so far.. Fort Canning Park we saw in the first days. It's quite a huge park in the city, really nicely done and great place to hang around.

There are malls in each corner here which we've visited. And they are enormous compared to ones back home. Besides stores are always different in each mall, except for some larger chains.

I thought shopping won't take my time until we're in China but I just couldnt avoid it! I guess it's time to send new package to home..

We had a glimpse of Chinatown quickly, it's like any Chinatown basically.

One eve we went to movies at Bugis Junction next door to see Jumper. The movie's not much to mention about. The theatre was nice, except no candies for sale and it was cold there, too efficient aircon. Prrhh..

On Friday we went to beach at Sentosa Island. Sentosa is located in the south of Spore and you can get there by tram. The island's man-made and it sure is luxurious with all the resorts and beach bars. We stayed in Siloso-beach at the other end of the isle. Actually the beach was almost nicest during our whole trip ;) They even had nice locker rooms and showers there for free of use.

In the eve we had the pleasure to meet my Sporean Nokia colleague Eileen. We went to Calrke Quay area next to river which is the bar and resto hub. Very atmospheric even though crowded. We had few drinks at a bar called Clinic. Like the name tells it was decorated like one! The best idea for bar we've ever seen. We sat on wheelchairs and the lamps were similar to operations rooms, you could order syringe drinks or have drip drink..all these crazy stuff. And the drinks sure were expensive! A day's budget!

After that we took a cab to Lau Pa Sat food market. Eileen ordered us satays (lamb, chicken, beef) and a rojak. Well you all know satay but rojak was something new to us too. It's a plate of fruit junks with a special sauce and crushed peanuts. The sauce was somehow salty and sour and that taste was altogether special. It wasn't bad but not a daily delicacy either! :)  But it was great to have a local to show and tell us something we wouldn't normally do and see. Thanks again Eileen!

On Saturday we did some individual shopping. I went to Suntec mall and got carried away! I had the best sales person at Echo-store and left the shop with a bag full of clothes and smile all the way to ears.

I just had to go back to guesthouse and somehow explain myself to Raffi ;D  We have our own budgets sure but I just thought I was cured shopaholic.. dream on..

On Sunday my other colleague Pearlyn  took us to brunch. Pearlyn's daughter Vinnette joined us too. They took us to Holland Village and to a food market. We had couple of noodle dishes (names which I cannot recall), few pastries (red bean and butterfly doughnuts...mmm!). To close the breakfast we had local desserts, crushed and flavored ice with red beans, coconut milk, jellies, durian sauce and they wer served in bowls. (see pics!) not bad at all even though they look interesting!

But because we had mixed breakfast and lunch we spend the lunch part in a sushi-resto. We ordered sushi and pregnant fish for Vinnette. Pearlyn and Raffi had an humorous ethical debate about the fish though. The funniest part must be when I was about to take a pic. I moved my bottom to right so much I ended up in the floor, legs pointing up in the ceiling! I just saw the marvelled faces of the next table and got up quickly and started to laugh. How embarrassing was that! But I still keep laughing at it when I think of it.

We enjoyed the brunch very much! Thanks Pearlyn and Vinnette!

In the evening we still went to movies again. Fools' Gold this time. It's cheap treat here!!

On Monday we had animal day. Raffi visited Bird Park in the morning and we met at a train station and continued to the Zoo. I'm not into birds and skip that part! ;) Just when we started our zoo tour it started raining and lightning. But it wasn't bad since the air was still warm and it got over soon. The zoo itself is awesome! The best I've ever seen. Its' like taking a walk in a park and the animals seem like they're hanging around a park. You don't really see them in small cages like in some zoos. They have space and woods around them. They have really emphasized that fact there. We also went to Night Sarafi in the evening. The combination cost 15euros per person, not bad at all. We did pay som 5euros more for attending the tram which circles the safari once. Besides we walked few of the trails there and it was actually quite interesting to see animals in the darkness for change. We sure enjoyed the day and eve there.

Yesterday we still paid a visit to Sentosa. This time we sunbathed in Palawan beach. We were there quite late since we did some shopping at Vivo-City mall first. After the sun set we had a ride in sleighs at Luge-track. It's a smal track down a hill with sleighs that have wheels. It was fun even if it only lasted less than 10minutes. After we saw a 15minutes 4Dmovie there and went home.

Our plans have once again changed and we're flying to Bali tomorrow evening after all. The way from Sumatra to Bali was a bit more work and time so we took the easy way there. So tomorrow the adventure at Indonesian Islands begin.

Take care,

nora
