On route to the gorge we did a pit stop in Port Douglas. We stopped off at a lovely hillside lookout which gave us a nice view of Four Mile Beach. Given the weather, you can imagine there wasn't a whole lot of activity on the beach front except for one lone kite surfer who had the place to himself. He bounced through the surf, gliding to and fro with such ease. He sure seemed to be having a good time.
At the lookout point there was also a little brass plate (donated by the local Rotary Club), which named several cities around the world and their distances from Port Douglas. Ours (Toronto), along with New York and Brasilia, were some of the furthest
When we got into town we stopped at a little parkette along side of the waterfront and sat and had...you guessed it...a nice cold beer! Basically sat for a wee bit, admired the awsome trees and then moved on.
Along the highway we paused to get a shot of a good looking 'blow up doll'. Yes, you heard right...a blow up doll! Our first thought was prehaps a 50th birthday party or something, but then realized that Australia Day was only 3 days away (Jan 26). And as you can see she was a real looker!
