Well, it is now Feb 10th and we are still in Cambodia. We decided to head down to the southern point and spend a few days on BimBamBoo Island (Koh Russei). I don't think we would say it was a 'resort' however some may call it that. It was fairly rustic - no power, no electricity, no internet. Our bungalow  had a couple of small beds draped with mosquito nets over them, a simple fan that was run by a generator unitl about 10:30 PM, and a squat toilet and shower room (is the best way to describe it). We were forced to spend our days swimming in the ocean or lazing in the selection of hammocks strung along the waterfront. It was pretty difficult slowing down to such a minimal pace, but we managed. I think Norm has the 'hang of retirement' now as the photos will explain things.

We delayed our entry into Vietnam as they were celebrating New Years and things would've been a little crazy for us had we have gone through with our original plans Island Sunset

. Like Christmas time in Canada, many shops close down and unless you know what's what or where's where it would be difficult to get from point A to B. Based on what people had said we both feel we made the right decision.

Now back on the mainland and trying to get back in touch with everyone via our blog. We are preparing for our journey into Vietnam forsure this time. We have a bus ticket booked in the morning to take us back to Phnom Pehn and then we will try to get a connecting bus onto Ho Chi Min City (Saigon). From there we will swing back down the coast a little and go to the Mekong Delta area. There are suppose to be some pretty fabulous floating markets and villiages in that area so we are keen on jumping on a boat (if we can) and mingling around the market with the locals in the early hours of the morning. Like most markets the early hours are best so we expect to get there for around 6 AM to enjoy the full 'local' feel of the place. Perhaps our next blog will be the results of our current plan.

For those of you wondering about the food - the food has been wonderful. We are trying alot of new dishes so we don't miss out on anything. We have seen a few weird things (from our perspective, of course) however the locals really seem to dig right into some of it. Norm was tempted to try a deep-fried spider about a week ago, but chickened out. The young gal on the bus next to us was nibbling on some fried and lightly seasoned crispy looking bugs. Not sure what they were, but she sure had a good time munching on them. She graciously offered us a taste as she could see we were curious, however we just as graciously declined. Some times we just aren't as keen on some foods as others - fussy perhaps, but that's life.

Deep Fried Spiders
Come on Norm, you should have tried the spider. Sharon, I am surprised you would not try the bugs! All part of the experience you know. Well, it is -7 today! Hope you are enjoying the hot weather. All quiet on the home front. Keep them coming. LD

Rustic, yes
But just look at that sunset!! I'm really enjoying your trip too! Swing away Norm (slightly different than a golf swing). I'm with you on the bugs and spiders and would kindly decline. Take care until your next posting.
