This morning we were all packed up and off at 9:30am, so
it was goodbye to VEGAS, BABY!

We drove down through Henderson and across the Hoover
Dam, which is a real engineering marvel! Technically, the van (being a
commercial vehicle with a trailer) was not supposed to go through. But all they
did was quickly inspected our luggage and let us go! Which is good, it would
have taken around an hour to take the detour :( This took us into Arizona,
where the time changed by an hour. Then we hopped onto the famous route 66,
which was the first trans-continental road of the USA from Chicago through to
LA. We stopped for lunch somewhere, it wasn’t very good or interesting, but
after this we stopped at Seligman which was a historic town associated with
route 66. There was some cool old signs, cars, and memorabilia – and of course
some souvenirs ;)

A few more hours and we finally reached Tusayan, at the
Grand Canyon! There’s snow on the ground and it’s pretty chilly, but it’s also
really pretty and quiet. We visited the actual grand Canyon for sunset, and
finally got ourselves a group photo! It was really breathtaking, seeing this
huge hole in the ground... It’s something like 10 miles (about 16 km) across
where we were, and it goes for about 200 miles! Truly spectacular.

After sunset we hit the Pizza/Pasta bar in Tusayan,
stocked up at the general store then went to the Red Feather Lodge which is the
lovely motel-type place we’re staying at. Now we’re kicking back watching some
spiderman on tv, loaning out the laptop for the others, and generally relaxing,
because tomorrow... We’ll be walking down into the Grand Canyon! This will be a
real test of our poor fitness, lol.

Good night for now :)

Oh, it's definitely worth the trip! And the people are nothing but friendly.
Mostly, I haven't smelt anything more unpleasant than the mule droppings on the Grand Canyon track :P Although, Fresno (between San Fran and Yosemite) did smell pretty bad. I think there was abbatoirs around...
Anyway glad you're enjoying! We'll keep something coming ;)
