The 14 of June I arrived in Gaborone capital of Botswana. It was my fourth times in 5 years in this country and already twice last year had the opportunity to come in Gaborone. So I decided that it wasn't necessary for me to spend any time and money around here.
I was really tired after the flight but I jumped in the first bus heading out of the city in the direction of the Zambian border, 12 hours drive north from Gaborone. It was pretty late when the bus left and unfortunately I would only be able to make it to Francistown, almost half way to the border. Not to bad in one day, but the problem was that to arrive at night time in Francisown wasn't the best option.
Too hard to found a place to stay for cheap when you have to walk true a town you don't know with all your staff to carry and damn exhausted after 40 hours travelling. But one more time it was without counting on the factor luck! 1 hour before getting to my destination a local guy from Francistown sat next to me. We started to talk and he immediately said that I will have trouble to get any place to sleep at this time of the night. I told him that I was a bit worried about it but that I will found a solution. Maybe stop a bit before town to camp or has I usually do in this case, go to a petrol station open 24hours and ask if I can pitch the tent somewhere close, for more security.
Barks was his name, around 40 years, very polite and well dressed. He really wanted to talk, one of his family members just died and he was going back to his village for funeral. We kept talking and talking and suddenly he asked me if I wanted to come to sleep at his place, somewhere in a village 30 klms out of town. I said why not! I wasn't going to miss that. I way prefer spend time with people in there place instead of going to a hotel and being bored. The bus dropped us in the middle of nowhere, Barks's sister was there waiting for him and in no time I was in the car and on my way to there village. The sister was also very friendly and she welcome me in there house has if I was a family member. The house was very nice and huge, standing at the village entrance. One after the others Barks's brothers and sister, cousins and friends came to great me and welcome me into there place the best way they could. I spend 2 days with them and had a really good time. It was really nice for me to begin my trip in Africa this way.
