Khao Sok has been one of my favourite places in Thailand. It is definitely an amazing alternative to the beach scene, keeping with the laid back atmosphere alongside spectacular scenery. Our good friend Ryan hooked up with us at our bungalow a couple of days after we got there, so we had good company.  The village leading up to the entrance to the park is very much part of the rainforest itself so your completely emerged in the wild upon your arrival: clean air, a green scene and wildlife right at your doorstep (or in your bathroom as was our case).  We hiked for 3 days in the rainforest (probably like 15 km overall), seeing some amazing trees, animals, waterfalls and other views.  It costs about $10 ($5/student) for a pass that is valid for a week.  I found this rainforest to be a lot more navigatable and enjoyable than Teman Negara in Malaysia, as the trails are more laid out and the village a lot more equipped for foreigners.  We spent the evening watching the sunset or rainfall (it rained everyday at like 5, like clockwork) from our balcony at Mr. Hom's Guesthouse, which I would highly recommend for their excellent cuisine, good hospitality and scenery (just turn right at the only intersection after the bridge and its like .5 km down the road).  The village outside the National Park is small, completely walkable and equipped with the necessities. However it doesn't have an ATM so you have to bring money from the outside. Who wants a bank in the middle of the rainforest anyway?
