Galapagos Day 11 was the day that we sussed out all the dive shops and organised some diving for tomorrow, sat on the promenade and wandered around on the beach.
On Galapagos Day 12 we were up and ready at 8.30am ready for our day of diving. We needed to go diving here to test out the equipment that we will be renting for our liveaboard. We found ourselves on "The Galapagos Party Boat" with about fourteen 20 somethings! Oh joy!
Actually, it wasn't an alcohol fuelled party at all. Most of the group were all couples from Scandanavia or Germany, sailing around the world from Europe, and they had met in various places on their journeys so far. They had some incredible tales to tell, and it makes our backpacking travels look tame in comparison! Needless to say, Kevin has already been on the internet checking out the prices of a 40 foot sailing boat!!!
Our dive equipment turned out to be fine…..although we may need thicker wet suits….25 degrees is a tad chilly for us! The fact that we saw three different species of shark, including hammerheads this close to the main islands must be a good omen for Dawin and Wolf…surely! The fact that the diving guides wanted to keep all 14 divers in one huge group, meaning that all we could see were bubbles was not so good. Nor was the fact that after a 30 minute dive, and with still 120 bar left in my tank, we were told that the dive was over and we had to ascend and do our safety stop because other people were low on air and we all had to surface! We weren’t entirely happy with this as you can imagine, but since this was really a test dive for our equipment, and there was nothing we could do about it anyway, we just let it go.
Still, we had seen more sharks on these two dives than we had in all our 180 dives so far…..this is good
On Galapagos Day 13 we headed to the beach, swam in the beautiful water, got attacked by a sea lion whilst swimming and got some great photos of frigate birds eating sea lion vomit! All in all a good morning! After returning to our hotel for a shower we ventured out for lunch to a more expensive restaurant….three days of eating cheap food was just getting too much, so we had to splash out and eat properly! In the afternoon we sat relaxing and catching up with some internet time, and that brings us to right now!
So I’m afraid that there won’t be any more blogs for about a week……and then there will be loads!!! And hopefully some fabulous shark tales to go with it…fingers crossed we don’t get swept out to sea!
Blog soon people!! :-D
