Galapagos Day Three
Today we had a long lie….well, until about 8am. We ventured back down to Tortuga Bay, stopping to take another gazillion photos of lizards, birds and well, more lizards and more birds. We finally reached Tortuga Bay, which actually means Turtle Bay about 2 hours after we'd set off. Tortuga Bay is breathtaking…..pounding waves, the softest, whitest sand I think I’ve ever walked upon, pelicans, marine iguanas and frigate birds……stunning
We spent several hours there taking photos, swimming and gawping at the scenery, before finally wandering back, to Puerto Ayora for lunch. Unfortunately we both managed to get a bit burnt…despite having factor 50 suncream on……it is soooo hot and the sun is incredibly strong here! So the rest of the afternoon we spent in the shade, before it absolutely chucked it down.
After wandering back down to get some more photos of sunset we ventured a few blocks away from the main tourist area to grab some (cheaper) dinner. Puerto Ayora is pretty expensive. Almost European prices for food, plus you have to add 22% tax on top of the menu prices. Fortunately, Renato’s Kiosk is little more than a shed with some cooking facilities…so prices are much cheaper and there is no tax. Tomorrow we need to find a supermarket so that we can actually MAKE lunch rather than buy it at one of the many expensive cafes and restaurants in Puerto Ayora.
Anyway, that’s all for now folks. Enjoys the photos, sorry they are all of animals, but hey, we are in the Galapagos!!!!!!
