Day : 178
Temperature : 30 degrees
Weather : Hazy sunshine, cloudy afternoons

We didn't know what to expect coming to Ko Yao Noi. From what we've heard Phuket is heaving with tourists and the beaches in Krabi are now covered in rows of sunloungers with parasoles. Yet barely an hour from Phuket lies a couple of little islands, untouched by the "package holiday market" and which seem to have completely escaped the mass tourism industry. Incredibly, the beaches are empty...ok you have to share it with a few herons, the odd crab, maybe a couple of fishing boats. These two Muslim islands, whose population is only 12,000, are a little haven of peace and tranquility...with the one exception at 5am when the mosque goes off! The beach front is dotted with a number of beach bungalows and cafes, and there are just enough tourists to give it a pleasant atmosphere, but quiet enough to feel like you have really escaped from the crowds. Ok, so the beaches are not wide and white with soft powdery sand, and at high tide the water covers most of the beach...but they are CLEAN! No rubbish, no bottles, no broken glass, plastic and all the other crap that you see lying around other Thai beaches. Plus, the views of Phang Nga bay, the friendliness of the locals and the charm of the island definitely make up for it. I hope it never changes. I hope the hotel developers, and the party goers, and the two week package holidayers never come here. In fact, for all those who think they'd like to visit.....don't come, you'd hate it! It's horrible here!!! Really!

We spent our first day on a motorbike that we hired, and we went around the island on a little tour. We paddled about in the sea, lay on the sand and relaxed in the cafes by the beach. We took some photos of sunrise, and took some photos at sunset. Ate some more, drank some more and relaxed some more. Bliss. I wonder what we will do tomorrow??

Hiya and hi Eileen too. Nope I'm not at all jealous either. November's a great month in the UK. I really don't mind it being dark at 5pm - the whole winter to look forward to and lots of rain, rain and more rain every day. Gosh Thailand looks fab! Holx

So glad you are not jealous, no need to be really....today we have had 7 hours of solid rain. It's grey, it's wet, in fact....I think we may actually be in England after all!
